The National Association of Fire Investigators was organized in 1961. Its primary purposes are to increase the knowledge and improve the skills of person engaged in the investigation and analysis of fire, explosions and arson, or the litigation that ensues from such investigations.

Membership Eligibility

You are eligible for membership in the National Association of Fire Investigators if:

  • You are a member of the following professions: Attorney, Fire Fighter, Law Enforcement Officer, Government Employee, Insurance Claims Person, Adjuster, Military Personnel, Engineer, Chemist, Metallurgist, Fire Investigator, Laboratory Analyst, or Fire Service Instructor.
  • You are a student studying any of the above mentioned fields.
  • You are involved in some phase of the investigation, control, suppression or prevention of fires and explosions or the legal trials which may result from this activity.
  • You have never been convicted of a felony.

Membership Dues

Membership Dues are billed yearly (based on the month joined) and are $45.00 per year for regular (uncertified) members.

For members holding NAFI certifications (CFEI, CFII, CVFI) annual dues are $55.00
