The 12th Vehicle Fire, Arson and Explosion Investigation Science and Technology Seminar is designed to meet the training requirements for the Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator Certification Program established by the National Certification Board. The investigation of fires and explosions in motor vehicles is a specialized aspect of fire investigation requiring specific knowledge and expertise. This program’s focus is on proper investigation techniques for motor vehicles as outlined in the Motor Vehicle Fires chapter of NFPA 921- Guide for Fire and Explosion Investigations.

This year's program is Organized by Investigations Institute and Sponsored by NAFI.

CFEI and CVFI Examinations

The CFEI examination will be offered on September 28, 2021 in conjunction with this NAFI sponsored training program. In order to take the examination, the applicant must be a member of NAFI and should submit a completed CFEI application to the NAFI office. Every applicant must meet the requirements of the National Certification Board and must pay an additional $75.00* fee. (This is a $50 discount off the regular fee).

The CVFI examination will be offered on September 30, 2021. In order to take the examination, the applicant must be a member of NAFI and a CFEI and should submit a completed CVFI application to the NAFI office. Every applicant must meet the requirements of the National Certification Board and must pay an additional $75.00* fee.

Registrants may sit for both exams at the training program.

 Health and Safety Measures

As a minimum, NAFI follows all CDC and local recommendations and restrictions in response to COVID-19. Please adhere to the following to ensure the health and safety of all training program participants.

  • Registrations numbers have been cut drastically to ensure the safety of those involved.
  • Masks are strongly encouraged for fully vaccinated individuals and mandatory for non-vaccinated individuals. Masks will not be necessary for the outdoor field day.
  • Maintain social distancing within the meeting space and surrounding areas.  
  • Wash and/or sanitize hands often.

In addition, NAFI is working closely with the Hilton to make sure that commonly touched surfaces are routinely cleaned. NAFI staff will have some PPE available, if needed, such as disposable masks, face shields and hand sanitizer. Please understand that these measures may change.


Conference Fees

A single $50.00 discount is available for NAFI Members or Multiple Registrations. Conference fees include all course materials on a Thumb-drive. Fees DO NOT include lodging.

NAFI recommends that participants bring and wear all appropriate personal safety equipment. This equipment may include: coveralls, steel toed work boots, and wet weather gear. Hard hats are required and will be provided by NAFI. NAFI will also make available eye protection and gloves.

Conference Details

This year's training program will be held at the Hilton Lexington. All field day activites will be held at the Scott County Fire Department Training Grounds. Transportation will be provided to and from the training grounds.

All invoices are due upon receipt. Prepaid fees are fully refundable until August 27, 2021; thereafter, individual registrants may be substituted, but refunds will not be made. Your registration is NOT a reservation but a commitment to attend and pay for the Training Program. Registrants who carry a balance due may have their registration cancelled if we go on a Waiting List after being sold out.

Special room rates of $139.00 per night (single or double) have been arranged at the Hilton Lexington. This rate is on a first come basis and the hotel will likely sell out. The special room rate is available until August 27, 2021 or until sold out, which ever comes first. Hotel reservations should be made by calling 1-859-231-9000.
